Beethoven and Isolation

Beethoven - ilmiomistero.com - loneliness
When we talk about music we must give a special place to the greatest composer and musician (in my opinion) that ever existed: Beethoven. That’s the man that challenged all the rules when it comes to musical composition to create Sonatas, Symphonies, Concertos and Operas that can only be described as the greatest achievements of the human mind.

He was born in the Classical Period of the Music (1770), when other amazing composers like Mozart and Handel were at the top, and he manage not only to end that period (It is well known that after Beethoven it was almost impossible to write a piece of Classical Music, since he had already done everything that could be done when it comes to rules, and the limits of the classism), but also to create a new Period of Music and all by himself: The Romanticism.

Who could possible say that the “Moonlight Sonata”1 or “Für Elise”, the 5th Symphony or any of his work don’t touch or move him? It is just amazing to me to realize that he achieved perfection, I mean every time I listen his work I can tell that every note is where it should, in the right place… just where it belongs. Having a drunk as a father, not being able to find the love of his life or being rejected by her, must be hard for every person. But it takes a genius to overcome all to become the greatest composer in the history of mankind. With such talent, the fame and money came really fast… The eccentricities of his life left him with the reputation of the greatest composer of Europe (in those days) but without money and with the biggest problem he ever had to put up with: we was getting deaf.

I cannot possibly imagine what would be devoting your life to music and end up deaf! He gave humanity the best music and he wasn’t able to hear it… that’s so unfair! But again the genius had to surprise the world with the most amazing piece of music ever written: his 9th symphony, actually, OUR 9th Symphony cause he left that to us as his legacy.

I can’t conceive how was it possible for Beethoven to write the 9th being deaf, it’s beyond my comprehension. On top of that, he didn’t have money and he lived the worst loneliness where everybody thought he was crazy. His nephew, his only family.

Isolated from society and the people arround he manage to change the history of music, the history of the world by giving some of the best pieces of music ever written. Centuries after his death, his music lives in everyone of us...
